Thoughts about the Book
Great Book, great Characters, espacially Sand dan Glokta, Logan Ninefingers (The Bloody-Nine), Maljinn, West and even Jezal Luthar. The Northern Gang around Threetrees is also great, espacially Dogman and Black Dow. Joe Abercrombie writes characters really great. He has you rooting for “bad” Characters like Glokta and he has this great humor - kind of like Andrzej Sapkowski - where the arrogance and cluelesness of characters like Luthar is a mockery of theirselfs without being explicit about it.
The chapter where West visits Glokta is really heartfelt and gives the character another layer of depth.
Then there is the chapter “The Bloody-Nine” and … Damn. That was awesome. Leaves you longing for way more knowledge about his past. Is he possesed or just really good at raging?
The Hole Story about the Maker and Juvens and so forth is very intriguing and the worldbulding is well done. Great many questions are still unanswered and have you longing to know more. What about the Eaters, what is the Seed and how is it connected to the First Law, how many other Laws are there? What about the Old Empire and other Places like Styria and the Thousand Islands.
It was a great read and really great grim Dark Fantasy with lots of potential still.
