Thoughts about the Book
So this one is a mixed bag. Some of the stuff in there is quite good, but much of its content really was not for me. He is basically looking back at his life and telling a story about how he did not feel that it had a story until he actively tried to change it. And there are here and there a few words of wisdom and some thoughts worth exploring on your own but for me there was too much bloat. Also, I am a convinced atheist and he is often going on about what I consider to be esoteric Christian blabbering.
Thoughts derived from the book
-
"A Story is a Character who wants something and overcomes conflict to get it"
I do agree but I would add "tries to overcome conflict" instead -
"If the character does not change the story has not happened yet. If Stories are derived from real life, if a Story is just a condensed version of life, then life itself must be designed to change us."
Great two sentences. So concise and to the point. It should be plain reading this chain of causality so raw really stuck with me. -
It matters little what you think about other people because about most of the time you’re probably wrong. Just as people are only going to judge you by your actions and not your thoughts, you will judge people only by their actions and make up your mind by yourself what their thoughts behind it were. Every one of us has a unique thought process that in most cases cannot be applied to others just like that. Makes us draw wrong conclusions on a regular basis.
